I Am Number Four
TITLE: I Am Number Four
AUTHOR: Pittacus Lore
GENRE: Sci-fi
SYNOPSIS: Nine of us came here. We live like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the super heros you worship in movies and comic books - but we are real. Our plan was to grow, and train and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in the shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in, We have lived among you without you knowing. But they know. They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya, They killed them all. I am Number Four. (I obviously didn't write that... I'm too lazy to write my own on this book because it is a little hard to explain without giving the whole plot away.)
GOOD STUFF: suspenseful, romance, relatable, sci-fi, intriguing, slightly magical, emotional (at the end I cried), action, friendship, loyalty
BAD STUFF: brief language, bullying, warfare, suspense, violence
RATING: 9 because it is a good read, a little strange, and didn't leave you like saying, "That was a total waste of my time." 1/2 a point was knocked off because it talks briefly about the end of the world being December 21, 2012 and the Bible says that only God knows when the end of the world is gonna be, not even his son, Jesus knows. Also, a half of the other half got knocked because the main character technically is an alien and some people have a hard time determining the difference between what's real and what's fake. It also talks about alien abductions and I don't want anyone getting scared to death that an alien is coming to their town to kill them all. The other half of the half (ok this is getting confusing...) got taken off because at one point his friend is pointing a gun at his head and that could be a bit scary for younger kids.
RECOMMENDED READERS: I would say I would probably recommend this to 13-16 year olds although I'm sure older teens would like it too.
COMPANION BOOKS: The Power of Six (I will read this as soon as I get it from the library), The Rise of Nine (comes out August 30, 2012)
Enjoy!

remember me? i used to follow ur blog
I will look for it. It sounds interesting. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI just read this, and think your review is slightly off, especially in your views on the Dec. 21st thing. It was in a chapter where people were spitting off conspiracy theories faster than you could say "Bob's your uncle." None of those theories were true, least of all the 12/21/12 thing. (Notice a pattern in the dates there? I think the Mayans were just a little number crazy.) I don't believe the world will end before God wants it to any more than I believe there are aliens living in the earth's core waiting to swallow us whole, or any more than I believe that Bob actually is my uncle.
DeleteMy review might come out soon. I don't know. I've been away for a while.
Yes, I see what you're saying, but some people might not have very good judgement of what's real and what's not. I'm not saying that you don't but remember last year when some guy predicted that the world was gonna end and some people gave up all their money and homes and then when it didn't happen, they were broke? I just don't want someone to fall into a trap again.
Delete@ Callie: Oh yeah! I remember you? What happened? You don't even have a blog any more! We miss you!
ReplyDelete@ Liam: Your welcome! Glad to be of some assistance.
I love the way you put the review together! Didn't they come out with a movie for this or something? I'm pretty sure my brother read these books. :p
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check them out, right now I'm reading The Lightning Theif.(:
Yup there's a movie that I have yet to see :) Ah the Lightning Thief. The classic (or not so classic) tale of a demigod named Percy Jackson if I'm thinking of the right book...
